The dance performance Vienat reflects on humanity’s perpetual drive towards self-destruction in our pursuit of happiness and harmony. At the same time, it explores our capacity to rebuild after catastrophe, turning to memory and the human body as witnesses to history.

The production takes its title from an obsolete Lithuanian word. Found in scholar Daniel Klein’s 17^th-century grammar book, vienat is an archaic synonym for ‘always’ and ‘evermore’, evoking notions of wholeness and continuity.

The narrative is constructed through movement and association rather than the spoken word. Here, the body, space, and rhythm take centre stage. Evocation takes precedence over plot, and pure presence over motivation. Rather than merely illustrating, the movement strips back cultural layers to reveal the living, vulnerable human being underneath.

The performance questions the cost and value of civilisation. It holds a mirror to a society where an abundance of information no longer sparks a desire to understand. Ultimately, it prompts us to reflect on the wisdom of older generations – something we so easily forget in our rush to renew.

Agnija Šeiko is a choreographer, dancer, educator, and the founder of the Šeiko Dance Theatre. Her work is celebrated for its interdisciplinary nature, its sensitive exploration of social themes, and its use of site-specific art practices. Here, contemporary dance blends seamlessly with music, the visual arts, and technology. Alongside traditional dance pieces, Šeiko creates dance operas, performances, multi-sensory walking tours, as well as musical and theatrical stagings. Over her career, she has devised more than thirty productions across various genres. These include Isadora (2008), The Wasteland (2011), Juliets (2012), Dior in Moscow (2016), The Seasons (2017), Sandbound (2019), Oneiro (2020), Indigo: Das Schliemann Projekt (2022), Onas (2025), as well as the children’s dance piece White Lullaby, among others.

Šeiko’s work has been widely showcased both in Lithuania and internationally. In 2015, she was awarded the Borisas Dauguvietis Earring for her direction and choreography of the contemporary dance and sound walking tour Travelling Churches: Klaipėda/Memel, and for her dedicated contribution to interdisciplinary art. Šeiko’s other accolades include the Golden Stage Cross, the Vita Mozūraitė Prize, and the Lithuanian Government’s Prize for Culture and Art. In 2021, she was honoured with the title of Master of Culture of Klaipėda.
